1. Healthcare Management
b. Develop basic human resources skills including the creation of a corporate culture, the understanding of performance and productivity management and the engagement of employees.

In the Healthcare Management’s class “Process Improvement Study”, the department reimplemented the “Daily Huddle.”  Huddle is a communication method to share information with employees about productivity, the status of departmental improvements, and current barriers being addressed in the organization. In healthcare, excellent patient care is our top priority. To achieve this, health care workers need to focus on enhancing communication and teamwork from within. These two important skills can lead to providing better, safe patient care. Daily huddles are useful in ensuring that clear and accurate information is communicated throughout the corporate culture. Collaboration at daily huddle builds a team-based approach among the department. Teamwork encourages unity, initiative and motivation to deliver extraordinary patient care together. Huddles increase problem-solving and critical thinking as a team and encourages positive input from others. By reimplementing this communication tool, the organization has improved performance and productivity results through employee engagement.

Through extensive employee feedback, it was determined that implementing a more desirable schedule would build positive work culture. This was the foundation of the “Staffing Scheduling” Project in the Healthcare Management course. At the organization, many employees were not happy with the inconsistency of their work schedule resulting in several of them switching jobs for a schedule that better suited their needs.  When looking at scheduling staff throughout multiple departments, consistency and clarity decreases confusion and helps employees focus more on their job duties increasing performance, productivity, and retention. Productivity management is the framework that helps improve the success of an organization. By supporting their input on scheduling, the organization increases employee satisfaction while also meeting department staffing needs. It is important for a leader to support their employees while also keeping the organizations productivity in mind. Achieving both of these things makes a strong leader.
